Next New
In terms of new types of new media that do not exist, one of them would be augmented reality and social networking. Augmented reality systems that can create or detail information in real-time do exist in some form such as with the Microsoft Hololens. However, there has yet to be a social media application attached to it. It could display real-time information on locations, stating things that you could find with google searches such as reviews and activity. In terms of social interaction, augmented reality could enable leisurely activities not done before or better information on people. Another kind of new media is full artificial intelligence (AI). Programs such as Amazon Alexa, Apple's Siri, and Google's Assistant are rather limited in what they can achieve since they use preset commands. Full AI can help people achieve things such as advice or doing tasks simultaneously with a user.

Wiki So Far
While I have not done anything to the wiki yet, I have done research in regards to what I would like to contribute. Primarily, I will be contributing and editing on the gaming and twitch pages (makes sense). For twitch, I will be adding information on a few streamers that are relatively popular but aren't on the page. I would be also doing basic editing and changing the article in regards that the page seems to focus twitch solely on gaming. This is not so much the case as there are many content creators who stream things such as D&D campaigns, cooking, music, and DIY projects.
In regards to the gaming page, I am trying to do research for a whole section on arcade gaming. I was genuinely surprised to find zero mention of arcades as that contributed much towards many companies that are successful today. In addition, I will contribute to the small section towards racing games as most of the page primarily focuses on shooters, RPGs and MOBAs.

P2P
File sharing is the practice of well, sharing files with other users in a network. For most people, they share files on the internet, allowing anyone to access and download them. P2P file sharing is mostly the same, except that it is through users downloading files through other's machines. Through a client/website, users can find, access, and download files that are stored on another user's machine.
P2P file-sharing can be music, ebooks, movies, and video games, allowing free distribution of media to anyone that can access it.
Since this is done for free, however, there is much debate in terms of the legality and fairness of file sharing. Many companies, use DRM or Digital Rights Management to protect their digital property and to ensure they're getting their money for the software. As a gamer, myself, DRM ten years ago such as SecuROM and their bad policies regarding ownership were trouble to deal with. Games shipped with paper product keys and these would be lost easily. "Cracked" P2P downloads gave me the only way to play some games since I couldn't ask my parents to buy me another.

Privacy
Within new media, privacy has been an always important aspect. However, it seems only recently that this issue has gained a large amount of attention. Knowing privacy rules, who can see your content, who monitors your content, what entities can access your info are all concerns that most people should have, but don't have. In terms of protecting your accounts and therefore, your data, passwords are relatively simple and rarely changed. Usually, the only way to get people to change their passwords is either when a breach happens or when forced to by the website.
This issue is important because it doesn't just affect your pride in uncovering embarrassing pictures on Instagram. Data breaches on online shopping can also uncover financial records, credit/debit cards, social security numbers, and any other info that can severely hurt someone's life. For others, the uncovering of some personal info can have incriminating effects such as towards people looking for public office or a job. Make sure your passwords are long, have 2 step authentication and in general be cautious of what you encounter online.

Advice
There are many ways for new media to help Baruch improve. Through new media, Baruch could open a way for students and faculty to easily express concerns/problems. Besides the traditional emails, which most people don't read, simple things like a twitter account only for student issues can allow concerns to be addressed anonymously. Students could report messes or things that need attention such as how awful our elevator/escalator situation is. It could also be a good way for people to share general advice. There is a Reddit page for Baruch and while it is helpful, twitter can be more accessible and more up to date.
New media can also help Baruch through open-source content. Things such as more open-source textbooks, research materials, music, or art can help build Baruch's reputation among the academic community. Given our college's reputation in certain fields, it can be demonstrated through open source content and attract prestige. Open-source materials such as using online articles and videos have been a great help for me personally, both in simplifying lessons and being easy on the wallet.
